Arts in the Heart of McCormick

The McCormick Arts Council takes a leadership role in developing and promoting diverse artistic talents in McCormick County, and benefits all by providing cultural opportunities through exhibits, performances and instruction.

 

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

To develop, encourage, and provide exposure to the diverse artistic and cultural opportunities in the region

In 1985 the McCormick Arts Council was established to offer a variety of visual arts, music, dance, performing arts, and instruction.  Governed by a board of thirteen directors the organization continues in its mission to make the arts accessible to all.

Arts Education:

  • Summer Youth Arts Camps are held each year.
  • Workshops provide instruction in oil, watercolor, acrylics, drawing, and photography.
  • Private music and art lessons are offered for youth and adults.
  • Week-long Artist Residencies are held in the County schools three times each year.
  • Youth Art Month is held annually with exhibition, reception and sales.

Performing Arts:

  • The Arts Council sponsors regular events which foster an appreciation and understanding of music, dance and theatre.
  • Concert by The Augusta Symphony Spring Quarter.
  • Student performances at various MACK functions throughout the year.
  • Performances by local talent at member sponsored events.

Visual Arts:

  • Nine monthly art exhibits showcase regional artists.
  • Three juried art shows annually for regional artists.
  • Artisans Guild Gift Shop open six days a week.

Organizational:

  • 200 Members contribute over $8,000 in annual support.
  • Local government funding supports the Arts Council’s operational budget.
  • Projects are sponsored in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
  • The Arts Council governs use of McCormick’s Town Park.

Benefits Of Membership -  What else can we do?  There’s no limit!  We need your help to accomplish all of our goals.  You can help by becoming a member.  As a member of the McCormick Arts Council you will:

·        Receive the Quarterly Newsletter with a calendar of cultural events.

·        Be notified in advance of all monthly exhibitions at the MACK.

·        Have access to the Updegraff Watercolor Library.

·        Receive free admission to cultural events including meet-the-artist receptions and exhibits.

·        Receive discount membership to the Morris Museum in Augusta, Ga.

·        Have the opportunity to support local artists and artisans.
