 SPOTLIGHT ON THE BOARD

  • Ed Zeaser was born and reared in Philadelphia PA, the son of the late John and Lillian Zeaser.  He attended local grammar schools.  In June 1955, he graduated from St John the Baptist High School.  In June 1959, he graduated with a B.S in Economics, majoring in Industrial Administration., from Villanova University.  In July, 1959 he was accepted for US Navy Officer Training School, and was commissioned as Ensign in Nov, 1959.  He served aboard the USS Canberra, until December, 1962, and was in the US Naval Reserve, until 1966, rising to the rank of Lieutenant.
    In August 1961, he married the former Miss Kathleen Campbell.  The Zeasers have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Ed has two Brothers, Don and Johnny, and a sister, Joan.
    Ed was employed by Cambell Soup Company for 35 years retiring in October, 1997, as Director of Material Logistics, at Campbell's Napoleon Ohio facility.
    Ed and Kay relocated in Savannah Lakes Village in August, 1998.
    Ed served as Chairman, Good Shepherd Catholic Church Pastoral Council, 1998 to May, 2006.  He is a member of US Sail and Power Squadron, and former Rotarian.  He has been a member of the Mack Board since January, 2006.  In October 2007 he was elected to the position of President on the MACK Board. 
  •  Jeanette Ross is also known as Pink Earth.  Jeanette lived in McCormick County, SC for 17 years and  moved to Abbeville, SC in the spring of 2007.  She began painting and making pottery as a child. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1984 with a B.A. in Studio Art and then worked for several years in the field of graphic design. She married Don Ross in 1989 and settled down in McCormick County. They have a 12 year old daughter Jeanette does her painting at home and she has a pottery studio at the McCormick Arts Council.  Jeanette serves as Treasurer on the Board for the MACK and has been an avid supporter of the MACK and the arts.
  • Lee Lapp was born and raised in the Saratoga Springs area of upstate New York.  she moved to McCormick in 2000 when she and her late husband purchased Fannie Kate's Inn.  She immediately became an active member of the Arts Council.  She was elected to the board in 2001 and volunteered as the Administrative Assistant at the MACK in 2002 until a full time replacement was secured.  She currently is head of the food committee for the MACK.  Lee was elected president in 2005.  Lee has traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe where she has been an active member of arts councils in several locations and she has always been an avid supporter of the arts.  Lee has served as chairperson of the McCormick Visitor's Council from 2001-04, was active in the Council of Governments in 2001-02, and also sat on the Executive Board of the SC National Heritage Corridor in 2002-03.  She remains an active member of the Visitor's council and Economic Development in McCormick County.
  • Jacqueline (Jackie) Brown is a native of McCormick, South Carolina.  Her parents are Whit and Martha Brown.  She is the oldest of three children.  Jackie does not have any children but claims all the children in McCormick as part of her extended community family.  She as a love of children which is manifested through her work in her church, community organizations and her work as communications and public relations director for the McCormick County School District.  Jackie has always been a supporter and lover of arts.  Her family has always been active in various singing activities, festivals, art shows, plays, concerts and other artistic endeavors.  Prior to working for the school district, Jackie served as executive director of MCLA.  She also worked as program coordinator at the MACK for six years.
  • Laura Buchanan was born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania.  Her family was deeded the land she currently lives on by the King of England in the early 1700's.  They inherited the land when her uncle died.  When her father retired shortly thereafter, they moved back to the family land in Clarks Hill.  Laura graduated from McCormick High School in 1969 and went to Clemson University where she graduated with a degree in horticulture in 1974.  She then went to the Philadelphia College of Art, finishing in 1976 and going into the business of illustration and design.  Upon the death of her parents in the 1980's, Laura returned to Clarks Hill.  Since her return, she has taken courses in numerous art forms as well as cooking.  This led her and Rusty Linberg to open the La Cantina restaurant.  Laura has been a member of the MACK board about 14 years. 
  • Harry Gail Nordyke, Jr. (Gail) is a native of Louisiana.  Gail was born in Welsh and reared in Lake Charles.  He attended city schools and graduated from the Lake Charles High School in 1947.  He attended MeNeese Junior College and Louisiana State University.  After graduating from LSU with a BS in Chemical Engineering and a commission in the Us Army.  He received his MS from LSU in Chemical Engineering in 1962. Gail married Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Miller who remained at his side for 54 years.  They have five children, eight grand children and three great grand children.  Betty died in 2005.  Gail retired to McCormick after 25 years in manufacturing and engineering which took him to such places as Lake Charles, Louisiana to Saltville, Virginia and Augusta, Georgia.  He is very active in the community and supports activities such as his church, the Lions Club, Friends of the Library, Relay for Life and the MACK
  • Hugh Brown is a native of McCormick.  He went to elementary, middle and high school in McCormick.  Hugh graduated from Clemson University in 1969.  He has been an insurance agent since 1983.  Mr. Brown has three children.  His son, Paul, is head of the McCormick County Library.
  • Roberta McKee was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and raised in Greenville, SC.  She is the daughter of John H and Mary Clinkscales Harris.  She attended grammar schools in Greenville, SC and graduated High School from Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, SC.  She earned her B.S. in Psychology with honors from the University of Maryland.  She earned her Master of Science in Geriatric Counseling with honors from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.  She is retired from the United States Air Force where she was in the medical field and the entertainment corps.  She was a disability counselor for Sinclair Community College and a mental health counselor for Goodwill Industries in Dayton, Ohio.  Due to health reasons, she retired in October 1995 and started a career in volunteerism.  Roberta is a member of the MACK Artisans Guild and the Abbeville/McCormick Habitat for Humanitites Board of Directors and the Mighty Arts Players in Savannah Lakes Village.  She is married to James C. McKee.  They have 4 daughters and two grandchildren.  Jim and Roberta relocated to Savannah Lakes Village on May 7, 2004.  Roberta became a member of the MACK Board of Directors in 2007.
  • Pat O’Haire was born in Georgia and grew up in Florida where she graduated from high school.  She attended the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, MD. and the Ringling Brothers School of Art in Sarasota, FL.  Pat worked in advertising for the Tampa Tribune and was an advertising artist for Montgomery Wards Regional Offices in Tampa, FL.  She married Jerry O’Haire in 1962 and has three children, Kelli, Tim and Bonnie.  She also has 4 granddaughters.  After her children were in high school, Pat began working for First Eagle Federal Credit Union as a part-time clerk.  She worked in various positions and became full time after a few years.  For the last 20 years of her career, she was President and CEO of First Eagle FCU with branches in Baltimore,MD,  Houston,TX,  Nashville,TN and Schaumburg, IL.   Pat and Jerry retired to Savannah Lakes Village in 2002.  Since relocating to South Carolina, Pat has served as member and chairperson of the POA Finance committee, chairperson of the Good Shepherd Finance Ministry and has volunteered at the Children’s Home and Helping Hands.  Pat joined the Board of Directors for the MACK in 2007.

  • Nickie Adamson grew up in the Texas panhandle where she finished high school and business college.  she moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where she spent the next 40 years.  She had three children and when they were older, she went back to work full-time.  She was the operating partner with her husband in a gift store, then manager of one of four book stores her husband owned.  She worked at the University of Alaska as Executive Secretary to a Professor of Psychology, an Executive Vice President of Finance and two different Chancellors.  After she left the University, she worked for the Fairbanks Fire Department as Secretary and Office Manager to the Fire Chief.  She worked as Customer Service Representative for a large travel agency and was Fairbanks Campaign Coordinator for US Senator Ted Stevens.  She ended her business career running the office for her husband's attorney's service business until they both retired.  Nickie has many hobbies such as painting, canoeing, skiing, sewing and being creative.

  • Barbara (Rowe-Roberts) Hinkel, a teacher, recreational director and 
    instructor in ballroom dance, was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (formerly 
    Rhodesia) in Africa.  She graduated from the prestigious Wycombe 
    Abbey School and Bedford College of Physical Education in the
    United 
    Kingdom
    where she also minored in art.  Barbara started teaching in 
    the United Kingdom in a British private school thirty-five years 
    ago.  She moved on to teaching many creative recreational activities 
    on three continents.  Over the years, she has created and managed 
    gymnastics, swimming and dance programs for all age groups.  Most 
    recently and currently she runs her own business teaching etiquette 
    and ballroom dancing to young people.  Eighteen years later she has 
    taught over 8,000 children social etiquette and dance.  She has 
    written two books on the subject, and designed and had mass produced 
    pewter utensils to encourage proper eating techniques.  Barbara, 
    having been thoroughly trained and exposed to most of the great arts 
    that Europe, Africa and America offers, comes to The MACK with 
    enthusiasm and a deep affection and appreciation for the arts in all 
    it's forms. She looks forward to exploring the potential 
    opportunities the Mack offers to the many talented artists that she 
    has observed here in McCormick.   Barbara is married to Ron Hinkel, a 
    retired US Navy pilot who is her business manager.  They have two 
    adult children and one grand daughter.  All enjoy beautiful McCormick 
    and it's amenities.  They feel blessed to be a part of such an 
    interesting and dynamic community.  Barbara joined the Board of Directors for the MACK in 2007.

  • Sandy Mahoney was born and raised in Bethlehem PA.  After graduating from Fountain Hill High School, she attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing.  She received her B.S. in Nursing from East Stroudsburg and accepted a position with Easton Area School District.  While working as a School Nurse she earned a M.Ed. in Guidance from Lehigh.  In 1985 Bethlehem Steel was closing some of its operations and the family moved to Lancaster Co. PA.  Sandy then entered the field of Long Term Care as Director of Nursing, She continued her education at York College and received a PA license as Nursing Home Administrator.  While in PA she was Area Vice President of PADONA(PA Director of Nursing Association) for ten years.  Since her move to South Carolina she was appointed Vice President of ASLTCN(American Society of Long Term Care Nurses).  Sandy and her husband, Hugh, moved to Savannah Lakes Village in 2004, they attend Lutheran Church by the Lake where she has been Secretary of the Women’s group for the last two years.  She is Congregational Coordinator for Thrivent and a member of the Altar Guild.  Sandy was elected to serve on the Bridge of Thurman Lake Sail and Power Squadron as Assistant Administrative Officer.  She works about one Saturday a month doing Nurse Aide Testing for a company that works with the Licensing Board of South Carolina.  Sandy and Hugh have been married 42 years, they have 3 children and 4 granddaughters; she enjoys running(44 marathons), bowling, golf, bocce, yoga, t’ai chi and working in the yard.  Sandy was elected to serve on MACK Board of Directors beginning in 2008, she will chair the membership committee.

  • Robert Sprague - Robert was born in Cortland, NY.  He was raised and graduated from High School in Bay Shore NY.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from State University of New York in Cortland, NY.  He received his Physical Therapy Certificate from Columbia University, his Masters Degree from Columbia University and his PhD from the University of Iowa.  He received a Graduate Deploma in Manual Therapy from the University of Adelaide in South Australia.  Bob taught physical therapy at Iowa and Ithaca College.  He had private practices in Ithaca and Auburn NY and continuing education teaching for the Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy Seminars.  Bob and his wife Cindy live in Savannah Lakes Village.  Bob has eight children and 5 grandchildren.  Bob is a member of the McCormick Arts Guild.  He enjoys designing and creating functional 'things' that may be used around the house.  He enjoyes making wood and winecork trivets, many of which are quite artistic.  Recently he has become interested in locating old SC barnwood for his woodworking projects.  One of his most enjoyable woodworking activities is making custom things of fine wood for people such as shelves for family treasures and specially designed tables for specific areas in a home.   Bob has been a member of the Board of Directors for the MACK since 2007.

  • Gary Marathon and his wife Kathie relocated from the Baltimore, Maryland area to the South Carolina community of Savannah Lakes Village, McCormick in June of 2007.  Their new home provides separate spaces for each of them to be creative and pursue their interests.  Gary received his formal fine arts training at the Rhode Island School of Design, in Providence, Rhode Island, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration in 1968.  Upon graduation, Gary served in the U.S. Army as an illustrator.  His artwork appeared in issues of Green Beret magazine, published during the Vietnam era.  In 1993, Gary decided to pursue his interests in fine art on a full time basis, ending his 25 year career working with federal and local government agencies in the graphic arts field.  During that year, Gary, along with five other artists, formed a discussion group they named the Artists' Round Table (ART).  The group met monthly to exchange ideas about art as well as ideas for promoting their art.  In 1994, the ART founded and organized a cooperative gallery in Columbia, Maryland.  After several months of planning The Artists' Gallery opened it's doors and is still operating and thriving in it's original location with a membership of more than twenty artists.  Gary continued to explore other forms of promoting his art in by entering outdoor art shows and developing a website.  Over the next 13 years his work appeared in art shows from Massachusetts to Florida and as far west as Missouri.  In addition to the Artists' Gallery, Gary has been represented by Margaret Smith Gallery of Ellicott City, Maryland; Grand Style Gallery of Baltimore, Maryland; Sanders Gallery of Tucson, Arizona and here in McCormick at the MACK and the Red Rooster.  His work has appeared in US Art and Southwest Art Magazines.  Gary Marathon's original oil paintings, as well as his limited edition reporductions, are in private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
